List of Official Events Event #1 This is a ticketed event. The association has chartered two buses to take all 70 of you out to the Hill and bring you back Saturday - September 11 Menwith walk-around Civilian Dress – business casual/casual Depart Montpellier coach park, Harrogate, 9:30 a.m. Depart Menwith @ Noon We’ll probably break up into smaller groups that will then be escorted around the base – see just about anything you like except the inside of the Ops building. No lunch, Club’s closed on Saturdays. Event #3 Sunday – September 12 Church Service Civilian Dress – Business casual, with jackets/sports coat, please Military Dress – Class “A” uniform. St. Peter’s Church – 11 a.m. We all walked by St. Peter’s, the big church in the town center but I don’t recall anyone actually going inside. Rev. Tony Shepherd has put together a special service for us, including the Menwith Hymn, and other spiritual things. We do hope you will support this event. We have a Event #4 Tuesday – September 14 Pub Night at the Alex Civilian Dress – Casual Military Dress – Civilian 7:30 p.m. till ?? You can come early and have dinner there. It’s pub-grub, but it is tasty and well prepared. Stick around and reminisce, tell war stories, catch up on all the latest before tomorrow’s big event! Event #5 Wednesday, September 15 – 10 a.m. RAF Menwith Hill 50th anniversary celebration Crown Hotel – Thackwray Room Civilian Dress – Business casual, with jackets or sports coats please. Official party, suits & ties. Military Dress – Class “A” uniform. Coffee and pastries available for early arrivals. This is what we all came here for. The event features a star-studded cast of the Harrogate Mayor, the Menwith Hill base Commander, a combined services color guard, anniversary cake cutting and dedication of the new plaque which will be permanently mounted in Menwith chapel, and 70 combined family, friends and veterans – the first to serve at Menwith Hill. That’s it! We should be done by 11 or 11:30 a.m. One additional note: Those of you who wish to make one last pilgrimage to the Hill are invited to a formal flag ceremony at Menwith at 1 p.m. on Wednesday. You are on your own for transportation, lunch at the club if you wish. Let me know early in the week if you think you might want to take this in.
